Question 1

Is it legal to play PayID pokies in Australia?

Accepted Answer

Australian law under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 prohibits licensed operators from offering interactive casino services to Australians without an Australian licence — and such licences are not available for casino-style games. However, the law does not criminalise Australian players for accessing offshore casino sites. This means that playing pokies at an offshore casino via PayID is not illegal for individual players, though it does operate in a legal grey area. Many Australians play at offshore sites licensed in Curaçao, Malta, or other jurisdictions. Always check the casino's licensing status and ensure it holds a valid, verifiable offshore licence before depositing.

Question 2

How fast are PayID pokies casino deposits?

Accepted Answer

PayID deposits at online casinos are typically processed in under 60 seconds once you complete the bank transfer from your banking app. The New Payments Platform (NPP) infrastructure that powers PayID moves funds between Australian bank accounts almost instantaneously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including public holidays. Your casino balance should update within a minute or two of completing the payment in your banking app. The only potential delay is if you forget to include your unique payment reference code — in that case the casino's finance team may need to manually match the deposit, which can take up to 24 hours.

Question 3

Can I withdraw my pokies winnings using PayID?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Most casinos that accept PayID deposits also support PayID withdrawals. The process involves submitting a withdrawal request in the casino's cashier section, selecting PayID or bank transfer as your withdrawal method, and entering the PayID linked to your bank account. Processing times depend on the casino's internal review process — typically one to four hours — but once the casino initiates the transfer, the funds arrive in your bank account within minutes via the NPP infrastructure. Before your first withdrawal, you'll usually need to complete the casino's KYC (Know Your Customer) identity verification process by submitting documents like your driver's licence or passport.

Question 4

Are there any fees for using PayID at pokies casinos?

Accepted Answer

PayID itself carries no fees — the NPP and its member banks do not charge customers to send or receive payments via PayID. From the casino's side, reputable operators also do not charge deposit or withdrawal fees for PayID transactions. You should always check a casino's banking page for any listed fee schedules before depositing. If a casino charges a fee for PayID deposits or withdrawals, this is unusual and should be considered a red flag. By contrast, some other payment methods — particularly certain e-wallets and international card transactions — may attract processing fees of 1% to 3%.

Question 5

What banks support PayID for casino deposits?

Accepted Answer

PayID is supported by over 90 Australian financial institutions through the New Payments Platform. This includes all four major banks — Commonwealth Bank, NAB, ANZ, and Westpac — as well as popular alternatives like Bendigo Bank, Bank of Queensland, ING Australia, HSBC Australia, Macquarie Bank, Suncorp, and most credit unions and building societies. If you bank with any institution that offers online banking or a banking app in Australia, the odds are extremely high that your bank supports PayID. You can verify by looking for a "PayID" option in your banking app's "Pay Anyone" or "New Payment" section. If your bank doesn't yet support PayID, consider that it may be a good reason to open a secondary account with a major bank.

Question 6

Do PayID pokies bonuses have different terms than other deposit methods?

Accepted Answer

In the vast majority of cases, PayID deposits qualify for exactly the same welcome bonuses, reload offers, and free spin promotions as deposits made via credit card or other methods. Some operators have historically excluded bank transfers from certain promotional offers, but this has become increasingly rare as PayID has grown in mainstream acceptance. Before claiming any bonus, read the "Eligible Payment Methods" section of the terms and conditions carefully. If PayID is listed as an excluded deposit method for a particular promotion, you will need to fund your account with an alternative method to activate that specific offer. Many casinos also run PayID-specific promotions from time to time — check the promotions page after logging in.
